Made it out Friday and today to close out the inland Trout season. No big story to tell. The fishing was off and on, and the streams were very busy with folk trying to squeeze out the last fishing of the season. No bigs were caught, but it was a good end to the season. Here's some photos.

Do hoppers still work in October? You bet!

One last pool and one last cast got this Bronze bully to take the hopper. A nice way to finish out the day and the season!

My hopper really took a beating, but held together pretty well after a dozen Trout. Always rewarding to catch fish with a fly tied by your own hand.

So that ends the season and the long winter hibernation begins. Yeah, I know... Iowa is still open for business. But not this year. I've run out of money, vacation time and energy. So maybe next year.

Just 10 weeks until the Wisconsin 2017 opener!

Great post, Bill.

No worries about not coming to Iowa. We're out of trout this year anyway. Everyone in WI and MN can stay home. Wink

Thanks!

Yep, that guy had some spirit. At first, I thought he was much bigger by the way he was fighting. But he only turned out to be 16". I was just about ready to quit for the day and thought, I need to catch one more to finish off the final day of the season. Saw him rise at the top end of a small pool and got him to strike on the second cast.

A fine way to end the year! Really satisfying walk back to the car and the drive home.
