In the paragraph titled "Dams on navigable streams", you'll see towards the end that this legislation was crafted solely as a handout to a SINGLE fish farmer in Langlade County. As if that wasn't bad enough, an article in the latest Outdoor News, states that the farmer just so happened to give a campaign contribution to the state assembly member Tom Tiffany, the one behind this nonsense. A little background from the article to those who haven't read or aren't familiar with the area: the individual has a trout farm on a Class 1 stream with several connected springs up and downstream. He has the creek dammed up and it just so happens an invasive species of snails, called "Faucet snails", showed up in the creek right next to his property. People living on the creek report much lower trout numbers and unbelievable numbers of snails on the creek bottom. Last year, I fished one of the springs further downstream, kept 3 fat brown trout, and upon cleaning them found about 50 snails in each of their bellies. Now sure, trout eat snails in these ponds but they're nowhere near one of their main food sources.

Anyway, the bill exempts this farm, and this farm only, from conforming to the rule that dams on navigable waters keep a 25% water flow through them. Though a few geniuses assure us that only under EXTREME drought will this even be a problem. Reading between the lines tells you they don't give a shit if the creek runs dry. The farmer involved is making money off of destroying a section of a pristine trout stream.

And the greatest part of all of this?...The Wisconsin Department of NATURAL RESOURCES did not object to any of this at the bill hearing.

All this requires now is Walker's stamp of approval, so I know this rant is a lost cause. But I had to get it off my chest. Hopefully we can stop future crap like this.

There's another creek in northern Wi that is loaded with both brooks and browns and the best section is labeled as a trout farm. You can go through it but can't fish it. It's complete bullshit.
