I was on the water from 11:30-3:30 and things definitely slowed down around 3:00 like you said.

Also felt much cooler even though the temp didn't really drop. The sun makes such a big difference this time of year.

The Root at Forestville was extremely clear today, fish were receptive to Zebras and Princes

Also #4 and #6 PMs Razz (silver was most effective, but they did hit gold)

The Milwaukee river is extremely low.
Water was very clear.
If your willing to work for them, there are fish in there!

Shaping up for a either a very cold opener with ice shelves blocking many good spots, or if a warm up happens right before, cold water (lethargic/uninterested fish) as the shelves break up and melt.

A lot can change in 11 days though.

Starting to get excited...

I've been off since the 22nd, don't go back to work until the 8th. Could be fishing almost daily...and it's below zero every day. *grumble grumble*

Supposed to hit double digits tomorrow and I'm talking to myself about going fishing, but it isn't clear whether I'm talking myself into it, or out of it.

Only good news is the fly boxes are filling up fast.

You know it's been cold when double digits is seen as a warming trend and a good day to get out on the stream.

Take an auger!

Laugh

That said, I'll be out opening day regardless.

Was -2 last year when I arrived on stream.

I'm going to be on the stream come opening day as well, but I won't be taking my furled leader. 2 years ago, I fished the opener, when the temps were down to zero. The second my furled leader left the water, it instantly froze into a stick. Very tough to cast, let me tell you!

It needs to be above freezing for me to hit the streams. And little or no wind. Even a mild breeze can turn a cold day into a miserable one. All I could manage last year at TrapFest was some photos of streams (taken a short distance from my warm car). The only actual fisherman I saw all day was on the Timber Coulee. Air temp was in the single digits.

Not a lot of open water that day on most streams.

Hoping for a warm up by next Saturday.
