I'll be out there.

The crazy thing would be sitting home on the second weekend of the season. Flapper

A friend went out on Tuesday while I sat at a desk and I was bitterly jealous. Laugh

It'll be chilly, but there'll be plenty of open water.

Only thing that could keep me away would be going after walleyes through the ice.

I see that the SWTU Ice Breaker event is Saturday here in Madison.

Guest speakers... vendors... lots of trout people in one place...

Perfect!

Means that I should have my pick of spots. Wink

I’ll be in a heated shack drinking Molson and hammering away on unpressured panfish, but hey, if you’re up for it, you’re more man than me.

This is an interesting topic because we are all creatures of habit and I get concerned sometimes about exploring a new stream and wasting a day, which never happens. I always have fun exploring. It's a change in frame of mind and actually some of the marginal waters produces much bigger fish. My plan this year is to explore lower sections of watersheds in search of the 20+ inchers. I've had plenty of 50 fish days but the big boys are where its at.

I hear ya…

My plan for tomorrow involves the watershed near my house that can (and has) produce(d) large fish but the density is low.

I'll have a much greater chance of getting shutout tomorrow than in getting more than a couple of fish.

No matter as I enjoy the diversity of trout options that are available.

Next weekend I'll likely go to a smaller, higher density stream or something in between.

I am not a creature of habit when it comes to trouting anymore and am almost the opposite where I get grumpy when "forced" to go to the same old places over and over - even if they're great places.

I get "forced" by weather, time constraints and especially buddies who only get out every once in a while and want to fish the same old spots or who, frankly, aren't skilled enough or crazy enough or interested in going to some of the other places I like to go to or want to check out.

I know... first world problems of having to go to great trout streams over and over. Trust me, I appreciate it and have fun once I'm there. I just prefer to give those spots a long break before returning.

EDIT: Listening to an old Orvis Podcast where Rosenbauer is giving ten Excuses for Getting Skunked. Might be perfect for tomorrow. Laugh

Ah Rush.

So glad I got to see them again a couple summers ago before they hung it up. Almost forty years since my last Rush show! They were the opening act for Kansas and Head East in La Crosse back in the mid 70s. Geddys voice was a lot higher then, but Neal is still a monster on the drums. Alex's hair is lot shorter, but his guitar still soars.
