The Town of Clayton, with the apparent help of Digger Don's of Soldiers Grove, WI, has destroyed large sections of stream bed on Sand Creek, a world class trout stream in the lower Kickapoo River Valley near Bell Center. They have stopped the water flow along a long section of it. They have literally driven their excavator down it, destroying the pools and the waterflow. Tons of topsoil will be entering the stream as a result of their destruction not to mention untold amounts of rock dust from their careless rock dumping. Crawford County and DNR have been out. Apparently, they've given them the go ahead to continue as they were back at it this morning. May 29, 2018.

I did manage to stop work last week but by the time I knew it was going on it was too late. Here is a link to a video I took or search town of clayton trashes sand creek on youtube.

I'm currently uploading more. Its pretty bad damage they've done.

If this is an attempt to control washout of the roadway when the creek floods, then it wasn't well thought out. Mother Nature has already decided where she wants the water to go in that valley. Putting some rock in the way won't stop it. I've seen lots of excessive work like this done around the area and it usually ends up making things worse in the long run.

This isn't the creek with the infamous "da bridge" where a certain land owner tries to chase fishermen away, is it? His little pool may end up filled with silt.

I welcome your concern of Sand Creek.
I drove the entire Sand Creek Road today.
I watched a retired guy finish catching his limit of Trout at d's bridge.

Because there is a vegetative buffer zone between the creek and the road, I will advize our dnr fish manager to investigate but do not expect any action from his office

Maybe some silt fence?

Thank you for your concern.

After speaking and showing this thread to our Fish Biologist along with the past two fish biologists for our area, I think this issue will get addressed Monday.
