I caught a wild hare and threw the waders on for a quick night excursion. 830 to the closing bell at 11. Tossed a black jitterbug. No fish caught, at the very end had one splash on it twice on the same cast but didn't hook up. It was a peaceful trip.

At least you got out there. I haven't done any night fishing yet this summer. I like to go on full moon nights to help me navigate a little better when the headlamp is turned off. I'll have to look for that next full moon here in August.

The world is a lesser place without The Cramps. They were strange alien creatures that crashed landed on a California beach possessing the souls of Elvis, Iggy Pop and Dick Dale.

RIP Lux.

Good of you to mention Dick Dale. I saw him perform in Chicago a few weeks ago. He usually cuts a trail through Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago, but Chicago was the only show I could attend. Glad I got there; he's 81 now and won't be doing this forever. He, his band and crew did stop at Mars Cheese Castle on the way from Milwaukee to Chicago to load up on cheese curds. He's one of a kind.

The first punk show I ever saw was The Cramps, with local (DC) band Urban Verbs opening (their singer was Talking Heads' Roddy Franz' brother). It was all downhill from there, and within months I was in the first of a series of DC punk bands, none of them too good! That was the fall of '77 or thereabouts. The DC scene was really great, and had a lot of future legends like Ian MacKaye and Henry Rollins. I got to see a bunch of bands when they were still very very not-famous, in venues that fit from 100-400 people: Talking Heads, The Cure, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers (personal faves), The B-52's, Gang of Four, The Buzzcocks (those last two at the same show), etc. I never made much of myself in my adult life, but I am so happy I was there, and then.

Henry Rollins describes the DC scene back in the day, and meeting Lux Interior, up close and personal. Hilarious.
