As my last post stated, I have been expecting the arrival of our fourth child. He arrived on Monday, everything went great and he and my wife are home and resting.

Next Thursday, the 16th, is my birthday. I don't work on my birthday. Never have, never will. I plan on making a day full day of it somewhere within the driftless. Durand, Wisconsin is an hour and thirty two minutes south from my house (according to Google Maps). I am used to driving 3+ hours each way to fish walleye with my father in law. If there is anybody else not working that day and is up for sharing a stream with someone not familiar with the area, let me know.

Either way, should be a lot of fun.

The wife is insisting I get a trip in. Until this summer I had been 3 times a week, minimum. I've only been out 4 times since the season opened this year.

She sounds like a keeper! And congrats on the newborn.

I sent you an email (PMs don't seem to work at the moment).

Unfortunately, I have to work the day and evening you are coming to the area. I am familiar with that area, pretty much home water for me. Send an email with your contact info and I'd be happy to give up some info. Happy Fishing! Ron

I wanted to report on Justin's birthday outing. I have had the opportunity to fish with several DTA folks and Justin is one of the guys that is typical of our group. Hardworking family guy that loves trout fishing. With four young children at home (shudder - 2 was plenty for me Hahaha) Justin was happy to be on a stream. He had not ever fished the driftless proper, so I was hoping we'd have a good day. We did.

This stream is on the far eastern edge of the driftless and may actually be just outside of it as it is east of the Chippewa R. The outing started very slow. We saw quite a bit of wildlife, deer, herons, and this family.

I did hit a very nice brookie in the beginning.

As we walked for a while in a lull, a pattern was beginning to show itself. Dink, dink, medium, then blammo - tanker brown!

It never fails, trout always puts a smile on one's face!

Even though Justin had not been out much this year, even with 4 kids he was fit enough to make the long 6 hour wade here through pristine bluffs and certainly a top 5 most beautiful stream I have ever been on. The fish perked up in the middle.

tanker brown again!

Justin with a nice pic in the bluffs.

Had a great time and the fishing was average to good today. About 25 to hand and several others lost.
I lost a brooder brooking in the final hole. One airborne move and it got loose.

Video is here on my YouTube channel.

Happy Birthday Justin!

Happy Fishing!

Great looking stream! Love that cut right through the limestone bluff.

It was a very fun way to spend my birthday! Thank you for helping me find some fish, Ron. That creek was well worth the drive for the scenery alone. I will definitely be back. Next time I plan on heading that way, I will make it known. Maybe we could team up again.
