I spin fish exclusively. With that being said the reason I got into tying jigs is so I can better diversify myself as an angler. When the big trout are on the feedbag I throw #11 Rapalas the rest of the time I throw jig patterns tied to emulate some of the popular "bugs" that are found in the streams like a fly fisherman would use. With 4# test I can cast a 1/32oz jig an acceptable distance and for smaller water and shallow riffles it works great. The lighter the jig is it sinks slower and the trout cant resist it. With that being said I fish a 1/16oz jig the vast majority of the time because I can cast it with heavier line making it easier when i'm switching back and fourth between cranks and jigs. I wont throw an $8 lure with 4# test.
