Went out Sunday about 6:30 AM for an early float.

Got 4 or 5 hits in the first 30 minutes and then it died off and only got maybe 4 or 5 more for the rest of the float. Was home by 10:00.

Pretty typical largies and I enjoyed the top water hits and rod bends as they dove under the yak.

This is the kind of day or experience I'm always anticipating on some spots up north but it usually just turns into me flicking hoppers out for bluegill with my tenkara, haha. Still fun.

I have had some fun times for sure though with smallmouth--the smallies up north feel like a different species altogether with their size and endurance.

Got out tonight post-front on a local largie pond in the yak.

Bite was really slow and I managed 1 little one and one decent one.

Also had an enormous hit that didn’t connect.

Highlight of the night was one cast that I put in an opening in the weed beds near shore.

Watched as a bass about 6 feet to the right of my popper started moving with purpose towards it. Was under the weeds and could track it by the rise of the weed tops as it swam underneath.

Got to my popper and “WHAM!”

Was surprised that it didn’t put up much of a fight coz I figured it was a big one.

Got it in and…

I'm going to piggy back on Gurth's post because my experience last night was so similar. Although I did not land any bullfrogs. They were croaking like crazy and apparently still breeding.

A strong storm had gone through and I went out afterwards, right before dark, to make a few casts. Bass were feeding aggressively: anything that landed on or near a lily pad was quickly attacked. I landed a few and lost several more, some of which felt pretty heavy. Some large bluegills were also feeding in open water out past the weed edges. The water must finally be getting and staying warm-it's the most active I've seen the fish in a long time.

Floated a local river with a buddy in yaks and then we stopped at a dam pool.

Only caught three fish.

Got a chunky little largie up in some reeds during the float and then got my best ever smallie at the dam – a true tank…

And the third fish…

Dinner!!

If I'm only gonna get 3, this was a pretty good little outing.

I'd say. That first one is a hog. Nice!

Terrible weekend for me on the warm water. Tried a local river at many spots both mornings and got skunked.

Went to a different one on the way home and got a new personal worst Laugh smallie...

I did think he was pretty cool though. Love that his markings already show on the face.
