It was cold, it was raining, the river was high and dirty....expectations were low. But it only takes one fish to make your day.

26" and change, probably close to 7 lbs, she was a real fattie. My biggest non-chinook to date. Fight was short and sweet - with the brule at 240 CFS I just ripped her up onto the bank before she had a chance to use the current to her advantage. I was on the outside of a bend and it was probably 4 or 5 feet straight down, so there was no way to net her. It was probably less than 10 seconds from hit to landing, just the way I like it. The perks of using 30lb braid. Only lake run fish caught in my two day jaunt, but I'm calling it a win.

Wow, Shebs! Incredible fish! I am heading up on Saturday to give it a try. Having a guide like Sasquatch would be a real nice perk, but I'm expecting to have a blast exploring on my own. I hope I get the chance at one like that!

The fun part is that when we fish the brule, I'm the guide LOL
He hates going there, cuz it's always a madhouse, and I generally agree, but the rains Monday made it our only option. Don't let that deter you - it's a fantastic fishery, but if you're there on a weekend you're gonna be fighting 100 anglers for a hole to fish. Even on a Tuesday, at one of the less popular access points, we weren't alone.

Noted. I've been studying maps looking for options in the area in case the Brule ends up being a shoulder to shoulder crowd.

Awesome fish Shebs. Wow. I'm heading up there for the first time in ages Sunday. Daughter is in Duluth and doesn't have class Monday so she wants to fish, then I'll be solo the rest of the week. Should be fun.

You dodged a bullet with the rain. I always kind of thought 250 was the start of the no fly zone on the Brule, and it was right up to it... BigGrin

I dodged no bullets lol, I've caught fish as high as 280 there this year! I havent seen it below 225 this fall because I never seem to dodge the bullets. Sasquatch is gonna stop inviting me up cuz I always bring the rain with me!

Hahaha. That's how I am with wind. My neighbor at the lake says he can always tell I'm coming by the wind picking up...

We better avoid the same areas or we'd cause the first ever inland hurricane. LOL
