Anyone have suggestions for car/hot tent camping in the Iowa driftless area? Looking to head down there late March for the first time.
Thanks!

If you're willing to walk in Coldwater Creek is a beautiful valley and stream. I believe primitive camping is allowed at all state owned lands on streams, so just check out the Iowa trout map. North Bear, Paint and Little Paint also come to mind. Iowa has alot of great cabins right by streams in the driftless as well..

Thanks for the info Jumpsuit. I do a lot of winter camping so not too worried about the cold and figured motels would be readily available if it gets real nasty. Was thinking of camping in the Yellow River State Forest so your recommendations fit well. Thanks again.

Primitive camping is allowed at all Wildlife Management Areas - unless otherwise posted. Not all public lands fall within this category. The WMA at the junction of North and South Bear Creeks gets enough camping use that the local trout groups (HFFA and TU) have paid to install and maintain toilets at the sites.
