Sometimes I find it useful to measure where I plan to fish. What looks like one mile from a straight line can be two miles if you measure all the loops. Online tool for doing so:

There is a ruler icon top left. Click away to measure. Usually 1.5 miles is about what I can handle for three hours. Sometimes more if it is easy hiking like pasture section and the holes are spread out.
