I ran across this while thumbing through the Feather Crafters catalog: the Rig & Run Rod Holder. Comes with a little magnetic clip (hard to see in the photo above) for holding the tip end of the fly rod to the side of the vehicle. -Bill |

Haha, I agree... Not a chance I'm letting my rig bounce around in the breeze and slap against the side of my vehicle. I'll just put up with the "inconvenience" of breaking it down and keeping it inside the vehicle during travel.

In the first posting they guy was looking for solutions that didn't involve putting his rod in the truck. Having the rod and reel bounce around in the truck bed is probably just a risky as an exterior mount. I believe the best application for this product would be a situation where you're bridge hopping over short distances.
I've seen plenty of guides with a half dozen rods and reels mounting to the roofs of SUVs on racks. It's not something I would ever do though. As was mentioned earlier, gear is expensive enough to risk it.

Why spend the money? For a short jaunt from bridge to bridge, sticking it under the windshield wiper works just fine. That said, I typically break it down at least in half and put it in the trunk.
