Hi everyone. I haven't had a thing to post in awhile because it's been a long time since I caught a fish worth mentioning; even crappies haven't been cooperating. But I finally got some success on something that's eluded me for a long time: a Fall turkey. I've done alright in the Spring, but it took until this week to finally get one during the Autumn season. I was set up in some heavy cover on the edge of a harvested bean field. I was prepared to wait until late afternoon, but it didn't take all that long for a mixed group to walk in. I shot a small hen-mostly because she presented the best shot-but also because I wanted wing bones for a call that sounds more like a hen.

I've also got the feathers sorted in Ziploc bags, based on whether they're to be used for soft hackles, marabou leeches, streamers or nymphs. If we get another winter like the last one, spending a lot of time at the tying bench would be a better use of time than drinking a lot of beer and watching the Blackhawks' games (although I do enjoy combining all three activities).
