Spending the long weekend on the flowage canoe camping in the quiet zone near Murray's landing. I've done this trip once before with moderate success catching northerns, smallies and eyes. Anyone else spend time on the flowage with a fly rod? I hope to report back on Tuesday with pictures of some hogs.

several trips there as my brother has a cabin in Park Falls area .... never fished it with the fly, just bait, stick baits and spinner blades ... so many fish, so much water ..... this was long before I got the fly fishing bug ..... would like a return trip and try some fly stuff ... keep us posted ...

You might be hitting it at a good time for smallies. Throw big poppers over the rocks and hold on!

We ended up getting some decent weather for half the weekend, with the rain coming on Sunday evening and Monday morning. Not a ton of fish, but a nice mix of species to make things interesting. Yellow perch, bluegill, smallmouth, northern, and a musky (my first!). The flowage was packed with 'cigarette smoking pontoon boat' crowd, but we were able to find some quiet water. Here are a few pictures:

It would've been nice to have been on a bass boat, as I struggled to spot fish from the canoe. All in all a good trip, but maybe a different weekend next year!

Oh man, the visuals.

Pontoon boat listing to one side. Couple of big dents and scratches in hulls. Canopy frayed and flapping in the wind. Cloud of blue smoke and an oil slick trailing from the engine. Confederate flag flying (upside down) and "Sweet Home Alabama" blaring from a boom box. Six occupants on the boat and nine beer coolers. A Weber grill smoking away furiously, ready to tip over at any second. Big ol Grizzly momma sitting on a tiny folding chair screaming at her kids: "YOU TAKE THAT DIAPER OFF YOUR HEAD AND PUT IT BACK ON YOUR BROTHER, RIGHT NOW!!" Trail of beer cans floating behind the boat.

Yep. Been there, seen that.
