I got my dad a 9 ft 5 wt Cabela's RLS+ combo for father's day and took it out casting for a while in my parents back yard. Anyone looking to get a starter rod, a back up rod or just a good quality cheaper combo should definitely consider this one. It's a moderate action rod that can haul some serious line, with a reel worth almost as much as the combo. I'd say the rod is better suited for dries and nymphs than streamers, but could handle almost anything you throw at it (that a 5 wt should be able to handle). To say the least, I am incredibly impressed with it. I have seen many posts referencing this rod so thought I'd share my opinions, fwiw. Anyone looking to get one should buy with confidence!

Have that exact reel on my St. Croix Imperial, first actual rod & reel purchased...others inherited, hand-my- downs , etc. Have moved up to a Sage z-axis for everyday use, but always bring the other as backup.

I just purchased a RLS+ "Size 3" to replace the bent Lamson Konic on my St Croix Imperial 7wt. I too am impressed by the RLS+. The build quality and overall looks bury the significantly more expensive Konic, IMO. Time will tell, but so far I'm impressed. Its on sale for less than $100 and it's machined.

I have the original RLS for my 3wt and it has been a great reel. Only thing that sucks is I want a 2nd spool and RLS+ doesn't fit.

I've got the 8wt combo and it has performed well for bass and pike so far.

Very nice Dan! On a popper? You're giving me the urge to seek out a local lake and try my hand at panfish with the ol fly rod.

ThumpUp LOL

Have all you only used the reel? The reel is certainly nice, but I was really impressed with how smooth casting of a rod this was for the money.
