My son and I have been tying with the WSU On The Fly group on Wednesdays lately and this is what we've been working on. I can claim the two on the far right as my own. They are tied on 3/0 hooks and geared for warm water species and the occasional large trout. The four flies on the left are my 14 year old son's first stab at tying a Fix. I'm impressed and proud of his tying!

Ryan - What brand of dumb bells do you use and where do you get them? Are they lead?

wholesale fly company or britebeads on Ebay. Put dumbbell eyes in the Ebay search and they should come up. They are brass as far as I know.

Those are nice looking flies! I especially like the green - that color looks great in the water.

I believe Ryan uses these lead dumbbell heads from Barlows.

Those were some awesome ties! I tied up a fix variation with a dubbing head (like a chub head) and had some luck with it last weekend. Doesn't sink as nice as the original but the erratic and flowing movement it had in the water moved quite a few fish. I'd post a pic of it but A. I haven't figured posting pictures out on here yet and B. I lost the fly in a tree right before dark on sunday

I think I lose more flies to trees behind me than I do to structures in the water.

Here is one pattern I've been messing with as I design a fly to use in the Cozad 1Fly event on March 25. Since you only get one fly, I want it to look buggy and leechy at the same time.

These are tied on a #6 Eagle Claw jig hook, 4 strands krystal flash, olive maribou, olive leech thread, red hackle, two black nickel beads.

That is a sweet fly, definitely a good one for the 1 fly. That size will be killer for the small-medium sized fish

Those look tasty! Add a few rubber legs and you might have a killer fly. The double head gives it that hunched over predatory bug look. What did you use for the body?

Thanks Bill. I did do a few with rubber legs inspired by Frick's Fix. The body is leech thread like in the photo below.

Streamer Eater - It is smaller than what I usually like to throw for streamers, but quantity is where the points are at for the 1Fly.
