Yes, the long awaited conclusion to the Early Season trilogy is finally here. Unlike the vast majority of trilogies (looking at you, Home Alone 3), I promise this one won't leave you wishing you'd just bought a sixer of Schlitz instead.

This report comes from the far corners of the driftless, or the Driftless Triangle, as I like to call it (Iowa, western WI, and Madison-ish). When you explore the intersecting vectors of the Driftless Triangle, strange and wonderous things can happen. In fact, I think it's almost exactly like this movie:

Wait...no, that's not it at all. Anyway - fish. I caught some, and I took a lotta photos, and I'm just gonna go ahead and post a giant glut of those now:

Not the best water for the whole underwater deal

But the fish didn't seem to mind..

But last weekend was when things really turned on. As others have noted, sometimes trout, and big trout, DO bite on bright sunny days.

And so do chunky smallmouth that may have just been defending their turf

Finished up the weekend by meeting a friend and fishing an entirely new location. A seriously sandy stretch. Not a good one to do alone lest you step into a totally unassuming but potentially disastrous quicksand trap. After we figured that out, it was kind of slow going. Rain on and off all day, to go along with a steady stream of 13-17" browns. I think we had one fish < 12", but the largest was only 17", which was a little surprising. A fun fish in what looked to be a low pressure area.

I solidly enjoyed the Early Season trilogy, and I hope you did too. What next... a prequel trilogy?
