Thanks I didn't think about Preston. That's my casey's pizza stop so the fly shop will be a good choice. Given the numbers I'm surprised Decorah doesn't have a shop.

I've hit that combo a number times.

I bought my Mn fishing licence at Casey's General Store in Preston

As a SW Metro resident, I have to recommend Mend as well. Not only is it a good shop, but it's the only independent fly shop reasonably close to me so I want to see it prosper! (Btw, if there is something closer that I don't know about, somebody please let me know!) Mend is actually quite close to the airport, too. They have a good selection of tying materials and flies, as well as a range of gear from simple to pretty high-end. In my experience the knowledge/advice has been good too.

Just a bit away is Bob Mitchell's Fly Shop in St. Paul. He just moved in to the location so the selection is growing as time progresses - also independent. I generally hit there or the Fly Angler in Blaine as Bill suggested.

However if I am taking a trip to the south I generally stop at the local fly store as trapper wrote. First to get the local knowledge but also to support.

I grabbed caseys and flies in Preston yesterday. Working on my fly rod build today and hoping tomorrow night after the epoxy sets up for a couple hrs I can get out. How are the streams looking after all the rain this morning?
