My 8-yr old son and I went down to Fillmore County on Friday night for a camping and fishing weekend. Unfortunately, the Root system was very high and very stained from heavy rains on Thursday. Still, opportunities for a Father-Son weekend like this are few and far between, so we stuck it out on Saturday with very little to show for it in terms of fish landed. On the other hand, my boy now loves fly fishing and can execute a respectable enough cast to give himself a chance to catch fish. The key, just like with youth sports, is to make sure they have enough fun to want to come back and do it again because repetition will lead to proficiency, which should make everything even more fun. Of course, the value of a weekend like this in terms of memories created and bonds strengthened is incalculable.

My son is participating in a "Principal's Challenge" this summer, which requires him to write a few stories or reports. He chose to recap our trip for one of his entries. So with that, I will let MNTrout68, Jr. take the trip report from here. (Hopefully the images will appear. Apologies for naming streams, but none of the water mentioned here is anything like a secret.)
