So the last time I was able to get to the driftless was the end of July. On the last day of the weekend my buddy and I drove separately so we could part ways after the morning outing. Driving along probably one of my favorite winding roads filled with mustang exhaust (The Amish Folk's mode of transportations' excrement) with my buddy ahead and always driving recklessly - out of the field pops this wonderful fox squirrel just as careless as can be. Following as close as I could I watched the helpless squirrel bound across the road while the Hyundai speeds up and swerves; then - BAM! squirrel down. I had to pull over to check on the guy and ended up putting it out of its misery.

To be fair my friend did not try and hit it - but I did come away with a gorgeous fox squirrel pelt. I tanned my deer from last year (hair on) for the first time ever so I decided to do the squirrel the same way. It turned out pretty good and now I am tying my first Pink Squirrels. From road kill to fly to trout to my stomach...gotta love it.

Apologies for the shaky photo; I tie on my lunch break so I can't always get the best shots

I absolutely did NOT speed up or swerve to hit him... but I also didn't make any attempt at slowing down or missing either.

P.S. You owe me a dozen pink squirrels.
