I've spent a lot of time checking out potential long distance hiking destinations and the Sierra High Trail and John Muir trail through the Sierras has always stood out. The range is studded with high elevation lakes and streams teeming with trout! A buddy of mine did the JMT a few years ago but he said they were in such a rush that he never got to fish. It haunts him to this day...

Way to get out there and do it! You've got me back on youtube watching videos and pictures of hiking and fishing in that areaDrool

Definitely worth the time, money and effort! Several destinations are always on our short and long lists and soon Iceland will happen! Some friends went there this past Spring and it was staggering the number of 30"+ Browns they landed amongst breath taking scenery! More realistically, next October will probably be another trip back to Utah to target large Browns.

Until then, this phenomenal Fall fly fishing will be just fine!
The big Browns are on the move and feeding ....

Unless one can enjoy himself fishing with the fly, even when his efforts are unrewarded, he loses much real pleasure. More than half the intense enjoyment of fly-fishing is derived from the beautiful surroundings, the satisfaction felt from being in the open air, the new lease of life secured thereby, and the many, many pleasant recollections of all one has seen, heard and done."
Charles F. Orvis, 1886
