Hello all,

My wife and I recently purchased a parcel of land up in Ashland County (near Mellen, WI) to put a little hunting shack on. The land is on a trout stream, but unfortunately it's shallow and mostly only holds juveniles.

Anyone have any information on any of the creeks up there? I'm not so much curious about the seasonal runs, but any tips / pointers would be great.

I spend a few weekends a year in neighboring Cayuga, WI. The Bad River, south of Mellen is fish-able and holds lots of brook trout. I've caught many out of there over the years. You can try Brush Creek, off of the Bad River, but it's very difficult to fish with lots of trees to get in your way and I've only pulled out chubs. BUT, years ago my friend's dad pulled out a 15" brookie from Brush Creek. Maybe they are still there.

Otherwise, there are lots of unclassified streams that are tributaries to the Bad River, but I'm not sure if there are access points. Long story short, the Bad River is a good place to start.
