Longtime DTA readers will recall reading about my mishaps with my Echo Carbon fly rod. Back in September, I managed to break the thing again, for the fourth time. After mulling it over for awhile, I decided to send it in for warranty repair once again. This time, it turns out that Echo no longer carries the Echo Carbon. So they sent me a brand new Echo Carbon XL, for no charge (there's typically a $35 handling fee). Pretty cool of Echo to do that. I can't wait to give it a go this spring and it will make a nice companion to the Echo Base 4W I purchased back in September. To go along with a new rod, I decided to pick up a new Ross Rapid fly reel too. Now... all I need to do is settle on a fly line. -Bill |

Tim Rajeff operates a First Class operation for Echo and Airflow. I've only heard great things about him. |

I got the Carbon XL four weight and have only good things to say about it. It can handle much bigger and heavier flies than I'd anticipated. It's been getting a workout on my local smallmouth streams where an eight weight is just too much gun. Echo does seem to be a first class operation.
