Fellow fishing contact found this very interesting mapping/info tool for phone or internet browser. Here is the link: MNTroutMapTool

Interactive map with access information, bridge locations etc. Sample map below is scrollable, clickable when you use the above link.

interested in comments of how accurate the public access information is from those of you that fish these waters consistently.

I thought the exact same thing. This is a good one for once.
“If the trout are lost, smash the state. More than any other fish, trout are dependent upon the ambience in which they are caught… At the first signs of deterioration, this otherwise vigorous fish just politely quits, as if to say, ‘If that’s how you want it…’”

I only looked at a couple streams. They were pretty spot on. With that said, there were also a couple lesser known accesses that require a bit of a hike that weren't on the map (thankfully). A good tool to use in conjunction with the DNR maps and a gazetteer.

Hi folks. Stu here. I used to have an account here, but i forgot'd my password.

Anywho, yeah. This app. It's called TroutSpotr and I made it for my dad to help us find places to fish for trout. Then I realized that I wanted everyone to be able to easily go fishing for trout. So I made this app.

It catalogs Easements, State Parks, State Forests, and Wildlife Management areas. No federal forests yet - those require a fairly deep dive into where the private land is found, so the northern streams aren't full up on how much PAL they have.

Northern streams' regs are also kind of a mess. The MN DNR still hasn't rectified the shapefile data with their notorious "upstream boundaries" laws. Several creeks that are under one reg are actually displayed another. I'm working with some folks in Rochester to get that sorted out.

Good thing you have to agree to my terms of service and my privacy policy!

The "Official" url is here:

Yes, the "2016" part is important. I'm fixing that bug. Nobody's perfect.
Share it all you like. It's free forever. Take somebody fishing!
If you really want to pay me, you can pay me in flies. I've been spending so much time on this damn thing I haven't tied any flies all winter...
...and my box is E M P T Y.

2017 version will have:
Offline mode
Wisconsin (all 2.8K of 'em)
GPS tracking
A lighter visual theme for outdoor use

If you're a glutton for punishment and want to see me give a presentation on it to a buncha MPLS folks, here's a 7-minute demo I gave a few weeks back.

Peace.

We are going to need an address to send the flies to. You have done a great service to the trout fishers of the Driftless Area. I call on all DTA'ers to send this man some flies. I am looking forward to when you are finished with the Wisconsin version.

Thanks, -Eddie Rivard

Hi folks. I've been working my butt off on getting 2,800+ Wisconsin trout streams into TroutSpotr, and I gotta say that WI is pretty tough from a regulations point of view. I don't think I've ever worked with a more complex set of regs.

That being said, there's a lot of progress that I've made, but yet a lot more to go.

Here are the two places that are left before I can get ya'll a beta test:
Get special regulation sections. This is really really hard.
Get road crossings. This is much easier to do than deal with laws and regulations... :)

Here's something I could use some feedback on:
How many regions would you divide your state into by county?
For each region, what would you name them?

Ideally, you want something big enough to hit with your finger, but small enough that it doesn't crash your phone.

This is what I have right now:
