I have been granted a weekend pass for my first trout outing of the year. With the "recent" big snowfall across part of the Driftless, I'm curious if there's anywhere i should avoid this weekend? SE MN is my likely destination, but I don't want to waste my time if it's blowing chocolate milk. Crossing the border into WI toward Westby & Viroqua for the first time might not be out of the question.

Gracias in advance.

As far as SE MN goes, there was a lot less snow south of 90. Preston got around 4 inches while Rochester got over a foot. Lanesboro fisheries will more than likely update their conditions page before you leave. Might be worth calling Mel at the fly shop in Preston closer to the weekend if they don't update their conditions page.

Post a report. I'm planning on heading down mid-week next week for a few days.

I'd go fish St. Croix and Pierce Counties, very little snow around so the streams will be in good shape. Three of the best known WI Trout Rivers within 30 min of each other. That said, Viroqua is a sweet spot and more than worthwhile drive.
