My buddy said he was coming over for a couple days so we decided to mix it up and instead of chasing big browns we would opt to go after brook trout. I had been eyeballing this spot for several years so we decided to check it out. When we got there the water was still very high and dirty. We debated if we should even fish it...well what glad we did! We both landed our best personal best brook trout mine was 16.25" and my buddy's was exactly 15". Unfortunately he didn't a pic of his big fish...camera shy fish. We did not catch a ton of fish but almost all were over the 12 inch mark. The heaviest Wisconsin stream brookies I've personally seen. We caught all of the fish casting across and downstream or directly downstream and reeling very slowly.

That's a beauty of a brook!

I got a bunch of decent brookies including a 13 incher (BIG for what I was fishing) out of a small Baraboo Ridge stream Friday evening and due to the low light of being in the woods and shutter lag, I didn't get a decent photo of any of them. Laugh

Feisty even by brook trout standards and most flipped/wriggled out of my hand and back into the water before I could snap.

Of course the wife is quick to point out that no photo = it didn't happen.

Ditto! Nice Brookie. ThumpUp ThumpUp

Love that dirty water! Just reading all the posts from the last couple weeks should convince anyone that you shouldn't shy away from stained water conditions. It's so much easier to fish than dealing with crystal clear and ultra spooky Trout. And, the big Trout really put on the feed bag when the water is turbid.

One of the best things about fishing stained water is the fish are still aggressive even with a high sun.

Yeah...most likely I will stop in. I stare at the Atlas & Gazetteer in combination with the DNR trout maps frequently. Wife asked the other day if I had the whole State memorized. Not hardly.

Yeah the winter months involve a lot of Google earth and multiple trout map tabs on the browser...and yet every year I always fail to cross a few destinations off the list. I only get so many vacation days... Crying
