You might've noticed some of your linked photos are vanishing from your posts and being replaced with this image:

UserPostedImage

Of course clicking on the link doesn't do anything except take you to your Photobucket library, and gives no important info on how to update your account. I was not able to find any info on their website on how your go about enabling "3rd party hosting" or what "100% 3rd party hosting usage" is supposed to mean.

I'm not sure what Photobucket is up to, but if they want to drive business away from their website, this should do it.

UPDATE:

OK... after some research on the web, it appears that Photobucket is blocking our images on DTA and are demanding an update to their premium service at $399 per year!!!!

I don't think so! Time to find another image hosting site.

It is not user friendly right now.

I've been using Flickr for over a decade...the UI has gotten a lot worse, and now you have to cut the hotlink out of the "embed" code but they give you a lot of bandwidth for your trouble.

They seem to do this in a very random way. None of my posts have this (yet), so I wonder if it's based on number of pictures used?

I've noticed that slowly most of my posted pictures on DTA are being replaced. I think they are targeting folks who have been using their service the longest. That way they can keep sucking in more new and casual users who will eventually fall for the bait and switch. They could at least be honest about it and let you know this what they intend to do when you sign up.

$399/year to host images is a joke!!! I can buy my own hardware and web domain and host my own images for less than that. I've cancelled my account with Photobucket and will not use them again.

Indeed. Do not endorse this sleazy business behavior by paying the $399 hostage money.

I'm often too lazy too lazy to edit the link out of their code.
