Hey! I can finally post on DTA again!! It's been a while. Thanks Mark and Eddie for fixing things.

A couple weekends ago I got out for a few hours to fish with my buddy and longtime DTA member Dan Braun.

The weather was incredible for late summer: mid sixties, solid overcast with just a few light showers passing thru. The fish seemed to like it too as we got into them right off the bat.

Dan was using a hopper dropper set up. When they starting hitting the hopper, I tied on my favorite yellow bellied version.

And then this guy came calling...

Here's where he lives. The stream here was only 3 feet wide, but the water is at least that deep under those rocks. A perfect ambush spot for a big Brown.

When we laid him down next to my rod to get a measurement we were fooled by the "Hero Mark" - which we thought was 20", but is actually marked at 16" (for some reason). I went through the day thinking I finally scored that mythical 20 incher. Turns out to only be 18 1/2" - but still, not a bad fish. I've got to put a proper 20" mark on that rod so I won't get fooled again.

It was another great day of fishing. The late summer-early fall bite is stronger than I've seen in recent memory. It's an excellent time to get out there and fish.

Thanks! He put up a great fight in that small stream. Really had to work to keep him from ducking back under those rocks. I'm glad Dan was there to be the net man on that one. The fly popped out of it's mouth the second he was in the net.
