I had been eyeballing B.M. all week coz it's been open and was surprised how silty it was. Not sure if that's the one you stopped at.

Was my first stop and hooked one on my very first cast of the season.

Went to set the hook and a thin crust of ice that was under my foot gave way and that little lurch was enough for the fish to get off.

Didn't get any more out of there. Mad

I've never fished there.

After my earlier post I went to the upper section of the stream I started on and saw a lot of fish but the sun was high and they were skiddish. The water was a lot more clear up there. I had 2 dogs at home otherwise I think it would have been worth fishing longer.

Did a bit of spot hopping and then settled into a stream for a bit.

A few of the spots that I hoped would be open were not, but did manage to fish a few others.

Only landed two fish, but one was 16-17 inches and the other was 17-19. If. I'm only gonna get a couple on a 10 degree day... I'll take it!

Was gorgeous out there today. Full sun and no wind.

I didn't even wear a coat as a couple of layers was more than comfortable.

Here are the brownies that I got....

Kept em wet even though the air temp felt a lot warmer than 10 degrees in the full sun where I was wading.

I need a larger net as the bigger one only had to arch to get himself halfway out of the net.

Good start to 2018!

I too found some water. The bite was very poor. One fish hooked, four or five follows and plenty of fish around! Good Day! R

Nice fish Gurth. I drove by a couple trout streams yesterday. That's the closest I got to a fish.

In other news, my daughter had her 12th birthday on Thursday and one of the things she had on her list was a new fishing rod (in addition to makeup, slime ingredients, clothes). I asked her what kind, fly or spin, and she said she wanted a spin rod just like big brother. Found a good rod with the Ugly Stik Gx2 youth combo. It's a medium action 5'6". Can't wait to get her to the stream in the next couple weeks.

Great looking Trout Gurth!

You're correct about keeping the Trout in the water as much as possible in this weather. Fish gills can be damaged quickly in cold air. Best to keep em in the net, snap a quick photo and put em back as fast a possible.

Garth, your PM inbox is full FYI. :)

Went mid-day today to a small stream near Madison that everyone knows about but is difficult to fish. ;-)

There were a couple of spots where fish were around and bit, did get one near 15 inches so that was a nice surprise.

Water was surprisingly murky which made safety an issue.

Otherwise saw several ducks, a blue heron (kind of odd but perhaps they stick around if there's open water), and a fox along the road.

Good to get my fix and may wait a few weeks to get out to better water.
