Has anyone fished Swiss Valley near Dubuque? I’m about 3 hrs. away from there and was thinking about a day trip if we get a nice day. I think it’s Catfish Creek? Just wondering if it would be worth the drive. Thanks....

hate to see out of state coming to iowa trout fishing trout is better in Minnesota and Wisconsin but that being said cant help you out in that part state . I fish northeast ia. but if you haven't check out the iowa dnr trout page do so it will give you give locations and info on streams in that area. http://www.iowadnr.gov/F...re-to-Fish/Trout-Streamsstay home or go north to one of the other states! But if you come good luck!

I would not make Swiss Valley a destination point. Before the extended/ early Wi. season I fished Iowa 3-4 times a winter. It is worth the extra drive to start at Bloody Run and work your way up. If you are just starting out fly fishing for trout and just catching a few fish a day scratches your itch then Swiss Valley or Little Mill can help with that.

The Iowa DNR stocks catchable rainbows and Brooks through the end of October via unannounced stockings. With the heavy rain and flooding that has happened these past few weeks, the hatcheries seem to have a gluttony of stockers to still dump in and appear to be stocking heavy . Action has been good on alot Iowa streams these past 2 weeks and plenty of MN and WI license plate trucks have been on the streams in Iowa. If you wanna get out and enjoy a day of fishing, these streams might not be as impressive as there northern and eastern sister driftless streams but Swiss Valley and others still offer good fishing. Mostly stocker trou, but also a surprisingly good population of resident browns albeit mostly smaller 8-12 inch fish . My advice work upstream on Swiss and walk further in away from easy access like most streams . Small water with some decent holes. Message me if you need any more info, I just hate naming streams publicly. Cheers. Edited by user Thursday, October 25, 2018 4:58:04 AM(UTC)

Swiss valley is great, was there 2 weeks ago and saw plenty of trout. I've caught several large browns from there. Go during the weekdays if you want solitude
