Panfish will push out of deep basins and up onto shallow flats when it’s been warm for a while or even with the right barometer and cold temps. I killed it on Saturday fishing up shallower than the shack village over a basin, where the crowds were catching a few here and there.

Went out on Sunday on a kinda sorta private lake, caught 50-60 and kept 12 in an hour, Vexilar was lit the hell up😂

Oh I checked the shallows and the guys with flashers said the gills were down there deep - just sulking.

I’m a hole hopper and I rarely even will sit on a bucket. I was all over that slough on Sunday while most others sat in one place. They just weren’t in the mood for whatever reason. It happens.

Those Eskimo shelters were on clearance a few weeks ago and I passed coz I could never sit in one spot like that at least going for Panfish.

Feel like I SHOULD go out today after work coz I’m free and might be last chance but I’ve got enough and even have a bunch to share.

I don’t/won’t do it just for fun but it’s weirdly addicting.

Trout is likely on the agenda for this weekend although a buddy is making noise about pike in the open water Wisco.

Shelters are awesome. I’ll fish even when it’s below zero. Pack the shack in with snow, drill holes, shovel the slush out to the interior edges, and turn the heater on. It’ll be 60 in there in a few minutes.

My buddy and I were running the heater on Saturday, despite low-mid 30s temps outside. We were down to t shirts after a while.

And yeah occasionally they’ll really get down like that. Fortunately I haven’t had one bad panfish day all year. I limited or could’ve limited on quality fish on all but one trip.

I also didn’t chase panfish once for all of February, which is the worst time, so that always helps😂
