I've come to the stream trout domain from the world of bass and walleye. It's common occurrence to see a bass(especially) or walleye with only one eye. I think the majority of the time this is due to catch and release. Now that I've been troutin' for a few years, I've noticed that I've never seen a trout missing an eye. I wonder if this is due to trout dying when they lose an eye, or perhaps the lures used rarely cause damage to an eye? I mainly throw spinners and a few rapalas. I've noticed that even with a rapala with two trebles it seems that even when a trout gets a hook in the eye area, it usually goes into the socket buy not the eye itself. I always release trout as carefully as possible and have yet to see one with a cloudy eye, which I am thankful for. I once did have a swipe at my spinner and reeled it in to find an eyeball on my trebleBlink Blushing

I've seen one eyed Trout, but it is pretty rare. Can't say I've ever seen one hooked in the eye, but I can easily see how a lure with multiple treble hooks could cause it. Especially when a Trout is flopping and twisting in the net.
